About the Huhu Beetle
The Huhu Beetle is New Zealand's largest native beetle and one of our most recognisable insects. These impressive beetles can grow up to 40mm long and are known for their distinctive clicking sound when handled. The larvae, called huhu grubs, were traditionally eaten by Māori and are considered a delicacy. They play an important role in forest ecosystems by breaking down dead wood.
