About the Katipo Spider

The Katipo Spider is New Zealand's only native venomous spider and one of our rarest arachnids. Found primarily in coastal dune systems, these small but significant spiders are an important part of our native ecosystem. The name 'katipo' comes from the Māori word meaning 'night-stinger'.
