About the Tuatara

The Tuatara is one of New Zealand's most extraordinary native species and a true living fossil. These ancient reptiles have remained virtually unchanged for over 200 million years, making them older than many dinosaur species. Found only in New Zealand, Tuatara are the sole survivors of an ancient order of reptiles called Rhynchocephalia.
